In Confidence with Amelia!
Don’t miss Amelia Kobeh’s entertaining morning show on RTQ´s channel with Pati Ruiz Corzo, activist who has fought for years to conserve the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve.
Forests of the Carso Huasteco
With the support of the World Land Trust, we have operated for almost 5 years a carbon (tCO2e) capture project in the upper part of the Sierra Madre Oriental in the municipality of Xilitla, working with 4 Ejidos that have fulfilled in the best way the conditions to be compensated for the tCO2e capture that their magnificent forests perform. As part of the project activities, we installed camera traps in collaboration with the ejidatarios of La Trinidad and Coronel José Castillo, in order to document the other beneficiaries of the project; the species of fauna that inhabit their forests. It is a pleasure to see the level of commitment of our local partners in Xilitla, who are convinced and involved in the conservation of their natural heritage.
Forests and Water Festival
In collaboration with the Secretary of Culture of the Queretaro State, the Municipality of Jalpan de Serra, and the Historical Museum of the Sierra Gorda, we celebrated the Forests and Water Festival, with the aim of strengthening the cultural and musical roots of the region. The events were designed to encourage wordsmithing to the planet and Sierra Gorda´s environment by these youth and children who are advanced in performing huapango. Partnering within the Jalpan Festival included the theater group Gaviota performance about the “Last Drop”, with an excellent response from the public. Thanks to Global Greengrants Fund and Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda, environmental songs well as the Children’s Choir of the Casa de la Cultura de Jalpan, were recorded in a professional studio to be published next month on Spotify. These environmental awareness songs are key material for schools and communities in the region. PARUNO, based in León, Gto., participated in the training of young people as well as provided packages of related materials for string instruments and donated of instruments given in 2024 to promote musicians from the highlands.
Thanks to all who joined, and those who were present and enjoyed the event, may this great festival be to raise awareness and strengthen action for our planet.
New Beekeepers
After 4 weeks, we concluded the 7th course “Training of new beekeepers”, in which participants from various communities in the Sierra Gorda learned about the importance of beekeeping for environmental conservation, thus initiating the path for the establishment of new apiaries. Congratulations to the new generation of students, who at all times shared their enthusiasm to learn from this beautiful activity! We also thank @FundaciónCOMUNIDAR for betting on beekeeping as a strategy for community development.
JAPEQ Private Assistance Board Visit
We were pleased to receive the Director of the Private Assistance Board of the State of Queretaro, Ms. Yolanda Hildegard Frei Nieto and her team at our facilities. The purpose of their visit was to review together the guidelines and regulations that apply to the IAPs and to verify that the GESG is in full compliance with them, and to learn more about our activities. We thank them for their visit and for the opportunity to strengthen the bonds of collaboration.
¡Olé!
Through Sierra Gorda Ecotours and thanks to Colegio Olé’s commitment to provide enriching experiences to its groups, students and professors from Western Washington University were immersed in the Sierra Gorda.
They explored our landscapes, learned about sustainability projects and witnessed the communities’ efforts to conserve their environment. Each visit like this one reinforces our commitment to environmental education and regenerative tourism, connecting more people with the importance of protecting our biodiversity.

Members of the Valle Verde Brigade of the GESG-WLT maintained a firebreak in the vicinity of the community of Rancho Nuevo, municipality of Jalpan de Serra. This preventive work facilitates access and firefighting if necessary, and this sector is one of the 70 km of firebreak that our sponsored Brigade maintains for preventive fire management. Our crew also conducts to surveillance from an observation hut on the brow of a high viewpoint to alert us. We deeply appreciate the work of our colleagues, always ready to intervene and join with other Brigades in fighting forest fires in Sierra Gorda.
Thank You Fundación Comunidar
Thanks to the support of Fundación Comunidar, we made progress in improving spaces and equipment within the network of community tourism services. Through the acquisition of furniture, the rehabilitation of spaces and the optimization of the image of the businesses, we strengthen the sense of belonging, pride and create better conditions for their operation.
In addition, we continue to implement the Cypress Seal (Sello Sabino in Spanish), to encourage local quality control among tourism service providers, achieving significant progress in the fulfillment of order and cleanliness indicators. This reflects the commitment of Sierra Gorda´s micro-entrepreneurs to excellence in service.
With this project underway, we expect to improve 5 of the 62 microenterprises that are currently part of the network.
