V Congreso Hilando Sueños
The Theater of Jalpan de Serra hosted the V Congreso Hilando Sueños por la Conciencia, Una Ola de Amor por el Planeta, we joined in the collaborative organization between 5 civil society organizations and the municipal government of Jalpan and DIF to impact the Serrano public. We had students from various educational institutions in the region who heard lectures on health and social emergencies as well as environmental education from Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda through La Gaviota Teatro, with the play “La Última Gota” (The Last Drop); artist Santiago Boldó spent three days painting an original mural about forests and water on the soccer field in downtown Jalpan de Serra and is part of a series of murals strategically placed on the Sierra Gorda. Thanks to the Chamber Choir ITESM, Querétaro for the concert and to special guest, Pochita Pol from Guatemala for her participation. We thank the Director of the Hilando Sueños Foundation, Ms. Guadalupe Acuña, for presenting a recognition to our Director for her long and solid trajectory at the head of GESG. https://sierragorda.net/v-congreso-hilando-suenos-una…/
Caring for the Sierra with Responsible Tourism
The Sierra Gorda Ecological Group, Eco Sierra Xtreme, Tripee Sierra Gorda and the tortilleria La Milpa, carried out a successful clean up campaign in the shore of Jalpan River, covering a distance of 1.5 km. During the activity, approximately 750 kg of waste was collected. It is crucial to separate the solid materials and take responsibility for disposing of them correctly so they reach a recycling collection center. Avoid dumping waste in the river; instead, deposit it in designated locations and report those who do not comply with this responsible practice.
Together we can take care of our local environment!
Improving Skills for Harvesting Aromatic Herbs
It is with pride that we recognize the effort and promise of a microenterprise that was selected by the Secretariat of Social Development of the Government of the State of Queretaro (SEDESOQ) to formalize the project “OROMILLER“, a group of women in the town of El Pilon, to rehabilitate a space to establish a cosmetic workshop that they will operate. The central focus is to give added value to the aromatic species that grow in the semi-desert of Querétaro especially the oregano, taking advantage of its medicinal and cosmetic properties. As well as from the pine nuts produced by the pinyon pines of the high parts of the semi-desert, which are an integral part of this project.
The producers now have three equipped workshops, one for processing and drying oregano and damiana, another for pine nuts and the ladies of El Pilón for the production of cosmetic products derived from aromatic herbs.

Photo of the Month
Every year, this flock of green macaws visits from the northeast to a certain area in the Sierra Gorda. And they choose the same liquidambar trees to spend the night, there are 3 occasions in which I get up early and the macaws, without haste and laziness start their day. These are very special encounters in the immensity of the Sierra Madre Oriental, because in a way it means that such wild and magnificent birds are already my acquaintances and give me the opportunity once again to document them. Soon another visit to photograph their awakening.
