Photo of the Month
All morning this American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) was calling loudly. I took the time to look for him and soon found some of his favorite perches on top of a Liquidambar, where he was hunting for insects or mice. Is he coming from Canada or northern USA? This little male will spend the winter in the Sierra Gorda, so we wish him a happy stay and a safe return trip north in the spring. One of the more than 100 neotropical migratory species we receive each year.

In Search of the Salamander
With the sponsorship of the World Land Trust we carried out the Expedition-Salamander, in search of the small and micro-endemic Flat-footed Patona Salamander (Chiropterotriton magnipes), nocturnal and cave-dwelling, which we indeed found with the support of amphibian experts, Bióls. Alejandro Calzada Arciniega and Raúl Gómez Trejo, both in an Ejido in Xilitla, (which I will not mention so as not to put the salamanders at risk) and one of the reserves that we guard in the SG. Apart from that species, with endangered status in NOM ECOL 059 2010, we find other fantastic amphibians and reptiles, inhabitants of temperate and cloud forests. An honor to effectively protect their habitat, doing conservation and not conversation.
Forest Monitoring in Mountain Areas
During the month of November, the GESG forestry team carried out monitoring in the temperate and cloud forests of the Ejidos Soledad de Zaragoza and Ollita del Pino, Xilitla, SLP, with the support of the World Land Trust, accompanied by their ejido authorities.
The purpose of this is to verify the conservation of forests in the ejidos benefiting from payments for CO2 capture, in order to guarantee and increase carbon stocks, hydrological recharge and biodiversity protection.
Regenerative Management Bootcamp
Two school camps were held this month, with the Technological University of Rio Verde for the workshop “Regenerative Management in the Sierra Gorda”, and another with the participation of students from the Technological Institute of Querétaro (ITQ), the Technological University of San Juan del Río (UTSJR), Jalpan de Serra campus, and the Community Telebachillerato (TBC) of Sauz de Guadalupe.
During the camps, students participated in a series of activities focused on the regeneration and conservation of local ecosystems. Topics such as soil restoration, reforestation techniques, waste management, and the importance of biodiversity in the Sierra Gorda were addressed. Practical workshops were also held for students to apply the knowledge acquired, as well as reflection sessions on how to take these practices back to their communities.
These educational experiences seek to foster a deep understanding of regenerative management and its application in the environmental and social context of the region.
We Take Care of Water
Our initiative for the harvesting and collection of rainwater and the invaluable support and contribution of Fomento Económico Mexicano, together with the State Water Commission and the Municipal Government of Pinal de Amoles allowed us to formally deliver 66 fog water harvesting systems (SCAN) on november 7, benefiting 231 inhabitants of the communities of La Cañada, Cuchilla, Quebradora, Mesa del Soyatal, Puerto de Tejamanil, Puerta del Cielo and Rancho Nuevo II.
This technique and infrastructure will allow its users to have an alternative source of water supply in communities where water supply is difficult.

Call to Earth
Thank you to everyone who joined in and held their #ZeroWaste days ofor the “Call to Earth Day” organized globally by CNN.
Among the activities we report on in the campaign, we include clean-up campaigns that we have been carrying out throughout the year for more than 3 decades.
On Wednesday, November 6, in a joint initiative between Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda, Ejido Tejamanil and the Municipality of Pinal de Amoles, we carried out a cleanup campaign along 3.5 kilometers of road, collecting around 800 kilograms of waste, of which 50 kilograms were recovered as recoverable materials, including PET, cardboard and aluminum. These efforts are fundamental to preserving nature and reducing the environmental impact on our community.
