In 2008, Bombardier announced that they would be providing long-term support conservation efforts at the World Biosphere Reserve of Sierra Gorda, which is situated near Bombardier’s operations in Querétaro, Mexico.
Bombardier have committed to allocate funds for the development of three projects with a high environmental, economic, and social impact. These projects deal with reforesting devastated areas of the reserve and of commercial plantations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, restoring the communities’ vital watersheds, and developing sustainable and diversified work projects in the northern region communities of Huasteca, Querétaro. Directly benefiting from the three projects will be approximately 25,000 residents of the reserve and, indirectly, more than 90,000 people from around the region.
The award-winning Sierra Gorda Ecologic Group have been managing these projects. Their work has been internationally acclaimed with acknowledgement and funds from organizations such as the BBVA Foundation for Natural Preservation, Energy Globe Prize, US Fish & Wildlife Services, Ramsar, MAB-UNESCO, Ashoka, Schwab Foundation, Rolex Award, among others. They have also been sponsored for eight years under the United Nations Development Programme.
