Annual Report 2025

View in full screen

End-of-year Celebration

On the 6th, at the Sierra Gorda Historical Museum, we celebrated our annual report to the mountain community, sharing the work done this year by the Sierra Gorda Ecological Group and the Alliance for the Conservation of the Sierra Gorda. It was a warm and meaningful evening, and we would like to give special thanks to all our friends who joined us and made the evening so special.

And there was live music by the Huapanguero Ensemble from the Porfirio Rubio Rubio House of Culture in Agua Zarca, which accompanied the presentation of the newly produced collection of 16 songs and songbook “Songs to Honor the Earth,” as well as the raffle of 10 solar cookers. Jorge Hugo Márquez Ramos, director of the museum manned the sound and visuals, and Félix Ramos represented CONANP – Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve.  We had the members of the GESG Board of Directors as well as staff members, in addition to representatives of CONAFOR and the Jalpan de Serra Cultural Center chorus. Pati Ruiz Corzo opened the evening celebrations and Roberto Pedraza presented the outcomes of 2025 attached here.

EverGreen School Wishes the Sierra Gorda Well this Winter

Celebrating fourteen years of generous gifts from EverGreen School to the Sierra Gorda. Thanks to the efforts of the administration and parents in Querétaro City, 7 tons 200 kilos of toys and foodstuff were blessings collected and taken to a community and rural school where Grupo Ecológico has been providing environmental education for decades. With these gifts the EverGreen community provides health for our region, a landscape cared for by its inhabitants; and from here, we send our warmest thanks and a big mountain hug to all the parents and children who participate in this campaign. May it be a blessing for everyone involved, with a very happy and fulfilling year.

More Fire Fighting Brigades

We are pleased to share the signing of a partnership agreement with the Arroyo Seco City Council, represented by Mayor Fernando Sánchez Gil, and witnessed by Fátima Lira, Director of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve of CONANP-SEMARNAT, representing the Federal Government. This partnership means the integration, operation, and financing of a Fire Management Brigade in that municipality. The brigade will be based in the community of La Florida, employing local personnel and joining the forest firefighting efforts starting in February 2026. The GESG will provide the firefighters’ salaries, the City Council will provide their equipment, transportation, and supplies, and CONANP will be in charge of the brigade’s operation, training, and logistics. It is a pleasure to contribute to the protection of the Sierra Gorda forests.

Together for a Clean Sierra

In recent days, we carried out a cleanup day together with environmental committees, Eco Sierra Xtrem, Guardianes de la Naturaleza, the Purísima de Arista Delegation, volunteers, and with the support of El Amigo de la Carnicería, working together to continue caring for our Sierra Gorda and keeping our spaces clean. Thanks all the people who participated, those who supported us with hydration and snacks, and the neighbors and businesses who joined in by cleaning the front of their streets.

We also thank the Municipal Services of the Arroyo Seco City Council for collecting the waste.

On-site Stay for Climate Action

From November 7 to 9, we welcomed teachers who, after completing the “Teaching Tools for Climate Action” diploma course, won a training stay in the Sierra Gorda, organized in conjunction with Tec de Monterrey and its Virtual Learning Center and included a visit to our headquarters and to Rancho Suelo Vivo.

During their visit, they participated in sessions on conservation, climate disruption, and biodiversity; they carried out soil regeneration and organic farming practices, as well as attended a teacher training session on animated films as an educational tool. The teachers returned motivated with the tools and lessons learned to inform their work and students.

Meeting with Education Authorities

On November 5, we met at the Centro Tierra Sierra Gorda with education authorities, sector heads, and supervisors to continue our environmental education efforts. Griselda Otero, head of the Regional Services Department at USEBEQ, Pati Ruiz Corzo and Deputy Director Roberto Pedraza Ruiz of GESG highlighted the importance of the Sierra Gorda in conservation and climate change, while Olivia Pérez Jiménez, head of Environmental Education, led the agreements to strengthen environmental education in schools.

Discount at Sierra Gorda Cabins

At Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda, we recognize the environmental commitment of companies that have offset their carbon footprint through the Querétaro Seal. As a token of our appreciation, during the month of December, employees of these companies can enjoy a 10% discount on their stay at Cabañas Sierra Gorda, located in Jalpan de Serra, in the heart of the Biosphere Reserve.

An invitation to pause, rest, and reconnect with nature, remembering that every action in favor of the environment adds up and leaves real benefits.

Video of the Month

And once again, a black bear in the forests of the Sierra Gorda protected by GESG with the support of the WLT! Without a doubt, a mischievous, curious, and annoying bear, but very welcome. It is an honor to keep these forests free from pressure, as refuges for life.

Photo of the Month

La Peña de Bernal, framed by fir and pine trees at an altitude of over 3000 meters. Geologically, La Peña belongs to the Neovolcanic Axis, while the Sierra Gorda is obviously part of the Sierra Madre Oriental and its limestones are of sedimentary origin. Two very different geological provinces, united by the hills of the Extoraz basin. A magnificent landscape that is very typical of Querétaro.
