Mexican Women’s Promenade
Martha Isabel “Pati” Ruiz Corzo, director of the Sierra Gorda Ecological Group, received the accolade “Lifetime Tribute” on April 26th in Monterrey, N.L. Mrs. Liliana Melo de Sada, on behalf of the Board of the Paseo de la Mujer Mexicana, presided over the event held in Recognition and Visibility to the Women of Ancient Mexico. The event was convened by the Mexico Monterrey Foundation 2010 AC, which manages and directs the Mexican Women’s Promenade (aka. Paseo de la Mujer); the Council for Culture and the Arts of Nuevo Leon (CONARTE); and the State Institute of Women of Nuevo León.
Defending the forest
Undoubtedly the most predatory and damaging tourism in the Sierra Gorda is the four-wheeler ATVs, where groups of enthusiasts have entered one of the areas we protect to tour it in their vehicles. For this reason we were present at the site during Easter vacation, with signs to prevent trespassing in coordination with the Ejido El Madroño. We thank the City Council of Landa de Matamoros, and the President, Marina Ponce, for their complete interest and willingness to put a stop to this situation.
Fruit Orchards
We began strengthening fruit orchards in the municipality of Pinal de Amoles with the pruning of apple and peach trees in the towns of Agua Fría, La Cañada and Magueycitos. With this work, the technical assessment of these orchards begins, hoping to reactivate them with the application of organic inputs to strengthen the trees and achieve a good production.
Photo of the Month
Mountain Trogons (Trogon mexicanus), known locally as Coas, inhabit the temperate and cloud forests of the Sierra Gorda, and we are proud to protect healthy populations of them in the forests we effectively guard. Let’s say they are the economic version of their cousins the Quetzal, as both are Trogoniformes, well adapted to forest life and addicted to wild avocados.

Arc of Life, Virtual Exhibition
We thank Espiral Foro Cultural Universitario (University of Guanajuato) and its organizers for inviting our photographer, Roberto Pedraza, to be part of their activities. We gladly share the virtual gallery dedicated to the Sierra Gorda with his work. Without a doubt the Sierra Gorda is a privileged natural space.
