For a Cleaner Sierra Gorda

In support of the campaign carried out by the Jalpan de Serra City Council in the neighborhoods of Puerto de San Nicolás and Saldiveña, messages were painted about the necessary separation of recyclable waste, meetings, working groups, and an action plan among neighbors, collection points, coordinated collection, and weaving a citizen network that allows us to maintain a healthy Sierra Gorda. Learning together to take care of our shared home and promote habits that protect our environment.
Keeping our planet clean is everyone’s job!

Beekeepers a Priority

As part of the actions to strengthen beekeeping in the region, and with the technical support of Don Polo Morán, an expert beekeeper, support is provided to 43 beekeepers, providing them with food, boxes, and protective equipment.
Through these activities, we are promoting the establishment of new apiaries and encouraging generational renewal through training workshops for beekeepers who are just starting out, generating interest among the younger generations. These actions also create economic opportunities and promote the care of this pollinating species.

We are grateful to the COMUNIDAR Foundation for its support and commitment, which are enabling beekeeping in the Sierra Gorda to continue to grow stronger.

Teacher Training for a Sustainable Future

Like drops of water forming a wave, teachers are preparing to generate collective awareness among all members of the community.

Thanks to the collaboration between Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda I.A.P., Tecnológico de Monterrey, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, and USEBEQ, 181 teachers from the mountain region and the state of San Luis Potosí successfully completed the 6th edition of the virtual Diploma in Sustainable Development: “Teaching Tools for Climate Action.” This brings the total number of teachers trained to 805, 327 in the Sierra Gorda and 374 throughout the state of Querétaro.

Each participant designed a school or community intervention project, inspired by the Green Protocol for Climate Action, which will translate into multiple actions to regenerate the school and community environment.

We congratulate all the teachers for their commitment, creativity, and leadership in favor of the planet. We invite more educators and community actors to join this cause. Together, let’s raise a big wave!

Be part of the next generation!

Music for Life

In March, we held a Musical Workshop for Forests and Water, and during that workshop, thanks to the leadership of the Sierra Historical Museum and the huapango masters, the following songs were composed: Perfecto López Martínez, with the huapango “Hasta la última gota debemos de cuidar” (We must take care of every last drop); Hernán Andablo Melo and Luis Enrique Sastre, with the composition “Pachamama”; Godofredo Garay Cervantes, with “Let’s take care of the environment”; and “El Querreque,” with music by Pedro Rosa Acuña and lyrics by the young people of the Casa de la Cultura de Agua Zarca.

These are four new Huastecan songs that raise awareness in society, rescuing our traditions, an antidote to not losing ourselves in modernity. They will be very popular and will surely fulfill their purpose.

Likewise, under the direction of Laura Leticia Hernández Barrón and with the Children’s Choir of the Municipal Cultural Center of Jalpan de Serra, Querétaro, a professional recording was prepared of a series of ecological songs that all the mountain people know and sing. Thank you very much for your enthusiasm and cooperation. Coming soon to Spotify and YouTube Music, this digital album will be available as a teaching tool for you to sing in your classrooms and be ready for the Earth Festivals that have been happening every year for 37 years. The support from Global Greengrants Fund, the collaboration of PARUNO and the leadershi from GESG made this musical venture a huge success.

Forest Recovery versus Climate Change

In the Ejido La Trinidad, municipality of Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, carbon capture monitoring activities are carried out in the cloud and temperate forests of the Ejido, as part of the project supported by the World Land Trust. During the day, data on diameters and heights, species present, abundance of mature trees, and regenerative processes are recorded in order to generate valuable information for the conservation and sustainable management of these ecosystems. By updating the information on tree growth and carbon capture associated with forest regeneration we continue to demonstrate how forest recovery is the best protection against climate change.

Companies Visit the Sierra Gorda

We celebrate the trust that Ingredion has placed in our cause. At the end of July, its employee leadership program took a day trip to one of the ejidos that actively participates in our Carbono Biodiverso program. We are proud to have 53 companies in Querétaro that reduce their carbon footprint and comply with the Querétaro Low Emissions Seal by working with the Sierra Gorda Ecological Group I.A.P. Visit us and learn more about the work we do to perpetuate the life of the forest and reduce emissions in the living environment. Take an opportunity to enrich your connection with nature, as forest regeneration is a priority task in the fight against global climate change.

Video of the Month

The Sierra Gorda on Planet on the Move
In the first episode of the chapter dedicated to Mexico on the Planet on the Move podcast, Maestra Pati Ruiz Corzo shared her experience in transforming the Sierra Gorda into a global model of community conservation.
During the interview, she spoke about reforestation, regenerative economies, climate education, and biodiversity preservation, highlighting how local action can respond to the great challenges of climate change.

Photo of the Month

I was able to take these photos at the moment of the release of a young Brown Owl (Strix virgata), which had been cared for and raised for several months by friends of CONANP. We cooperated by providing mice and facilities to house wildlife in recovery. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to all the wildlife that comes to you and the help you provide.

It was an exciting photography session because instead of darting off and getting lost in the low jungle, the Brown Owl flew a short distance and perched, carefully observing its new home.
