• 40,500 hectares protected through Carbono Biodiverso — 10,000 more than in 2025

Salesforce brings together 120 companies, government representatives and organizations to accelerate nature restoration in Mexico City.

On August 25, 2026, Salesforce, together with AMERE and Grupo Bimbo, hosted Partnerships for Nature, an event that brought together representatives from the private sector, government and civil society to explore how nature restoration efforts can be scaled up. The event featured the participation of Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda, highlighting the need to build partnerships capable of generating environmental, economic and social benefits.

“Nature restoration is not a task that any single actor can accomplish alone. It requires governments, companies and organizations to work together, each contributing what they do best.…, the conversation goes beyond environmental issues and becomes an agenda for development, investment and innovation in Mexico,” said Alicia Bárcena, Mexico’s Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources.

With Secretary Alicia Bárcena of SEMARNAT and Marco del Prete, Secretary of Sustainable Development of the State of Querétaro (SEDESU), in attendance, we presented the virtuous mechanism that is making possible the regeneration of 50,000 hectares in the Sierra Gorda, through the participation of forest landowners and companies from across the state.

These forests represent invaluable natural infrastructure, providing essential ecosystem services to Querétaro and to Mexico.

As part of the independent technical review of the Carbono Biodiverso project, a field verification process from August 10 to 14 included reconnaissance and evaluation of several properties in the Sierra Gorda of Querétaro covering different vegetation types and forest conservation conditions.  The field inspections by staff from the Centro de Investigación y Proyectos en Ambiente y Desarrollo (CIPAD), reviewed the conditions of participating properties and interviewed private and communal landowners.

These activities are part of Carbono Biodiverso’s independent verification and monitoring process, helping strengthen transparency and support ongoing efforts to conserve the ecosystems of the Sierra Gorda.

We continue to promote recycling throughout the Sierra Gorda by strengthening our network of collection centers.  New metal signs have been installed at recently established collection points, while worn banners and vinyl signage have been replaced at existing centers. The goal is to make these spaces easier to identify and encourage more people to participate.

We thank Fundación FEMSA for its valuable support of sanitation and waste-management initiatives throughout the Sierra Gorda.

As part of our efforts to promote beekeeping in the region, we delivered 13 beehive boxes with colonies to new beekeepers who participated in the training course held last March. With this support, participants can begin on a small scale, developing a new productive activity while contributing to the care of bees, important pollinators for food production.

On August 18, we held a Recycling Drive in Puerto de San Nicolás, Jalpan de Serra, where, thanks to the participation of volunteers and the support of Recicladora Rodríguez, we recovered 1,200 kg of recyclable materials, including cardboard, paper, PET plastic and scrap metal.

Through these activities, we promote waste separation and recycling, preventing materials that can still have a second life instead of ending up in the landfill.  Every effort counts toward keeping the Sierra Gorda cleaner and strengthening a culture of environmental responsibility.

To address the illegal harvesting of oregano and damiana in Peñamiller, a working meeting was held to coordinate monitoring efforts and protect ejidos operating within the legal framework for harvesting aromatic herbs.

Representatives from PROFEPA, SEMARNAT, CONAFOR, Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda, the Peñamiller municipal government, and the Productora y Comercializadora de Plantas Silvestres del Corazón del Semidesierto, S.A.P.I. participated in the meeting. The S.A.P.I. brings together eight ejidos in the municipality that either already have, or are in the process of obtaining, the legal permits required for the sustainable harvesting of wild plants marketed under the Aroma Vivo brand.

This inter-institutional effort responds directly to concerns raised by legally operating ejidos, which face unfair competition during the key oregano and damiana harvesting seasons from buyers and collectors who continue to operate illegally.
