Nightwish Reserve
World Land Trust & Nightwish unite for Sierra Gorda
At Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda we are very happy and proud to see how every day more and more people join our movement, a wave of love for nature. Our friends from the Finnish band Nightwish, join as ambassadors of the World Land Trust. Nightwish sees nature as an inspiration to create music, and we at GESG believe that music builds bridges, brings people together and raises awareness.
We thank the World Land Trust for weaving this partnership, for introducing the Sierra Gorda to Nightwish, and for supporting the expansion of one of the reserves we steward, the Nightwish Reserve, home to the black bear and mountain lion.
We led a workshop on interpretation of the cultural and natural heritage of the Sierra Gorda for accredited guides, and for the Cuatro Palos and Tejamanil ejidos. The topics ranged from the geological formation of the Sierra Gorda, its paleontological history and first settlers to environmental awareness. Participants also learned group management and assertive communication and the importance of the service provider in the positioning of a Sustainable Destination.
Discover the most beautiful and delicious gastronomic corners of the Sierra Gorda along the Ruta del Sabor. These stops on your tour through the Biosphere Reserve will give you the pause and energy you need.

Pati Ruiz Corzo received the Music Mexico for Social Transformation Award during the Guadalajara International Music Fair 2022, represented by Olivia Pérez, our environmental education coordinator, who received the award on her behalf. From playing in chamber orchestras to being a music teacher, Pati has taken her passion for music to the mountains of the Sierra Gorda using it as a tool for environmental education and conservation.ión ambiental y la conservación.
State Program for Decorbanization
GESG held a meeting with representatives from the Secretary of Sustainable Development of the State of Querétaro, from the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) and Ejido Commissioners to inform about the ???????? ???????? ?? ???????????????́?; in this program, forest owners will receive payments for promoting forest regeneration in exchange for relieving pressure on the land. This will allow the capture of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
The objective is to promote conservation practices; the greater the carbon capture in forests, the greater the infiltration of water into the soil, protecting biodiversity and bio-cultural heritage.
Bell’s Salamanders are one of my favorite amphibians. Nocturnal, chunky but delicate, of slow pace and gentle gesture, they are highly threatened creatures. Deforestation, logging, drought, scarce rains and lethal human ignorance are wiping them away. Years ago they used to be abundant, now each encounter feels like a major award.
