National Wildland Firefighter Day
July 11 marks National Wildland Firefighter Day. It is a source of pride for GESG and its firefighting teams to be part of this community in the Sierra Gorda and to actively defend its ecosystems, species, and communities.
We also highlight the excellent collaboration with authorities at all three levels of government, including CONANP, CONAFOR, SEDEA, and the Civil Protection Departments of the region’s municipalities, working together to minimize the impact of wildfires.
We thank and support your vital work!
Joining Forces for Beekeeping
For years, Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda has strengthened regional beekeepers through technical assistance, equipment, and training programs.
Beekeeping plays a vital role in maintaining pollination services for the crops we depend on.
Updating Informative Signage
These signs are placed at microenterprises within the Community-Based Tourism Network and at key points of interest. They include maps and information on biodiversity, geology, and other key aspects of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve.
With this initiative, we aim to enhance the visitor experience and strengthen the identity of our region.
A Meeting to Inspire
We exchanged ideas, stories, and experiences from our corner of the Sierra Gorda, where we also promote women’s leadership through community projects, conservation efforts, and local economies.
Thank you for joining a cause that unites us: empowering women, starting with Mother Earth.
For a Cleaner, More Sustainable Sierra Gorda
Attendees included Ing. Marco del Prete, Secretary of Sustainable Development; Rubén Hernández, Mayor of Jalpan de Serra; Lic. Francisco Peyret García, head of PROFEPA’s office in Querétaro; and Mtra. Fátima Lira, Federal Director of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, CONANP.
The “For a Cleaner Jalpan” initiative was presented by the Municipality of Jalpan, and we shared the progress being made at a grassroots level: assisting administration and equipment at local recycling centers, ongoing cleanup campaigns, and environmental awareness efforts.
Be a part of this joint effort for a cleaner Sierra Gorda.
Photo of the Month
Euglossine bees are one of nearly 2,000 native bee species in Mexico. In this case, they specialize in pollinating orchids like Stanhopea tigrina. Male bees collect fragrant waxes to attract females, and in doing so, they pollinate these stunning flowers.
Deforestation for agricultural use has pushed these bees and many other species to the brink of extinction.
It was a pleasure and an honor to document them once again.
