    Querétaro Is International News!

Querétaro made history by being one of the nine subnational governments with the most relevant climate policies on a global scale invited to the Climate Ambition Summit 2023, which took place in New York City.
Thanks to the environmental public policy consolidated by the Querétaro Low Emissions Seal, promoted by Querétaro’s Secretary of Sustainable Development and part of our local protocol in Sierra Gorda for offsetting emissions, we are proposing solutions that help mitigate climate change, where both landowners and biodiversity benefit.

Details of how our local CO2 capture and transparency protocol works in the following explanatory video from explorer.land by OpenForests.

    Together, we are re-greening Querétaro!

    Wastewater Treatment

At the Sierra Gorda Ecological Group’s facilities, a virtuous meeting was held between state authorities represented by the State Water Commission and the Secretariat of Sustainable Development, the municipalities and the federal authority through CONANP, regarding wastewater treatment, a long-awaited action in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve. Today the fruits of an Sierra Gorda Alliance´s work managed by GESG is coming about with consensus by the inhabitants of the communities and the municipal authorities as well as the Government of the State of Querétaro. Bravo!

World Tourism Day and Our Partners

In the framework of World Tourism Day, we met with representatives from the network of micro-entrepreneurs that we have supported and promoted thanks to a variety of partners and funders, a productive meeting strengthening the synergy between them. Do you know what Regenerative Tourism is and how it is transforming the Sierra Gorda? We invite you to learn a little more about the valorization of the scenic beauty in favor of the landowners, who are local allies of the utmost importance.

    GESG Among 15 TOP Innovators

Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda IAP has been considered among the “15 Top Innovators” by UpLink – World Economic Forum, the platform that helps generate and scale innovative solutions to the pressing problems we face.

The local emissions offsetting protocol where landowners and biodiversity are the partners and beneficiaries, gives value to our work, the partnership with State Government, and can be replicated in Mexico and internationally.

    Sessions With Young People

We conducted environmental awareness sessions in the rural high schools of the communities of El Lobo and San Pedro El Viejo, addressing the most relevant topics for the correct separation of waste, appreciation of the forest services and preservation of species. We also delivered a separation bin as part of the “Zero Garbage” program.

With this support, we seek that the institutions continue with waste minimization and separation projects. Thanks to the teachers for the space and enthusiasm to involve young people in these issues.

    Embroiderers at the BBC

We had the pleasure of inviting a correspondent from the British Broadcasting Corporation to the workshop of our embroidery friends from La Colgada, Pinal de Amoles, where several of them were able to talk to him and be interviewed. Coming soon to BBC News Mundo, stay tuned!

    Follow-up With Beekeepers

Our colleague and expert beekeeper Don Polo Morán, offered a new training on honey extraction, directed to the beekeepers who graduated in March from the training course for new #beekeepers, and who were provided with hives and colonies to start their activity. We are very happy, because despite the drought that Sierra Gorda is suffering, our fellow beekeepers have shown that by working we can obtain a honey harvest; the secret is to make sure they are fed!

    Aromavivo Is Born

We received the members of the nascent company Aromavivo, an emerging micro-enterprise formed by women from the ejidos and communities of the semi-desert that will add value by producing products derived from oregano and damiana, a social enterprise that seeks to organize the local collectors and the processing, benefiting hundreds of families in the semi-desert of Querétaro. Next time you´re here, look for the natural products that you can find in Sierra Gorda.

    Forest Therapy Workshop

Did you know that nature has a healing power that is within everyone’s reach? Learn about it in our next workshop on forest therapy that will take place in one of the ancestral forests of the Sierra Madre Oriental from October 16 to 18. Photo of the Month

From another afternoon with the incredible Green Macaws on a narrow ledge in the canyon where they rest in the Sierra Gorda. Since I was a kid, heights are not my thing, so from the narrow trail with the canopy below, sitting against the ledge and clinging to the camera tripod, as if my safety were assured, I had a hard time. But photographing them is the best, with their colors, interactions, permanent noise and the life and energy they give off. Their survival is in check due to the tourist pressure and the exceptional drought we are going through.

    EXPOTurismo Sustentable | TULUM, Q.Roo

Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda IAP had a stand at the EXPO Turismo Sustentable, which took place on September 10 and 11 in Tulum, Quintana Roo, with the purpose of promoting an effective alternative to reduce the carbon footprint and combat climate change through the protection of forests rich in biodiversity in the Sierra Gorda. And, we thank the Dreams Sapphire Hotel for the invitation and with whom we currently have a partnership for the promotion of this initiative inside their facilities.
